A total, comprehensive and indefinite strike has been declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities( ASUU), Taraba State University chapter.
This follows a authorization by the ASUU public to the state branch to embark on the strike action to press home its demands and the state government’s disproof of claims that it isn't owing workers hires.
Arising from a congress meeting, the union insists that the explanation behind their action is depended on government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, creation arrears, fractional payment of hires to staff as well as unsettled staff pension and gratuity scheme.
Mr Samuel Shitaa, the Taraba State University ASUU Chairman, noted that other reasons for the artificial action includes non perpetration of agreements and border fencing of the institution.
Replying to the strike action, the state government through the Commissioner for Tertiary education Edward Baraya in a telephone interview said the union has not communicated their action to the state government.
He wondered why ASUU would take such a decision when the present government is doing everything possible to address the issues before leaving office.
Also replying, the special counsel to the governor on media and hype Bala Dan- Abu in a press statement said the gregarious governor is owing no worker hires.
Below isMr. Dan- Abu advertisement stating the government’s position on the issue.
Taraba state government.
Press statement
The gregarious administration of his excellency, bow Darius Dickson Ishaku, administrative governor of Taraba state, isn't owing any group of workers in the state yearly hires and, thus, won't be leaving behind any burden arising from overdue stipends for the in- coming administration.
This explanation came necessary following a press statement issued lately on behalf of the in- coming administration of Lt Col Agbu Kefas, the governor- elect which contained a pledge to pay payment arrears in its first 100 days.
This veiled blameworthiness is wrong and gratuitous. The Ishaku administration noway toyed with the weal of workers in its eight times of stewardship in the state. It had constantly paid their hires since it assumed office in 2015, utmost of the time before the end of every month.
We find this so- called pledge to pay outstanding payment arrears made on behalf of the governor- elect not only lost but also misleading.
It's also surprising coming from an in- coming administration extensively known and regarded to be an seed of the the present government of his excellency, bow Darius Ishaku.
We suppose we demanded to set the records straight, hence this disproof.
