SERAP Tells INEC To Commence Investigation Or Face Legal Action, Election Violence


 

 

Nigerian communal group, the Socio- Economic Rights and Responsibility design( SERAP) has transferred a communication to the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC).


The group toldProf. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the INEC to incontinently seek the appointment of an independent counsel to probe allegations of electoral offences and other electoral violence, including bribery during the lately concluded general choices.

SERAP bared this in a letter on Saturday, inked by Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP deputy director.

The statement incompletely read, “ relating, arresting, probing and executing those suspected of negotiating electoral violence and other electoral offences during the 2023 general choices would act as a interference against electoral violence in unborn choices.

“ We'd be thankful if immediate way are taken to apply the recommended measures within seven days of the damage and publication of thisletter.However, SERAP shall consider applicable legal conduct to impel INEC to misbehave with our request in the public interest, If we have n’t heard from you by also. ”

Recall that the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly choices were conducted on February 25.

Also, the Governorship and State House of Assembly choices were held on March 18 across 28 countries out of 36 countries in Nigeria.

Bola Tinubu of the All Revolutionaries Congress, APC, won the Presidential election after defeating strong contenders, the PDP’s Atiktu Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Tinubu has formerly entered his Certificate of Return from INEC.

Twenty- six( 26) Governors- elect have been blazoned so far by the INEC and will be presented their Certificate of Return latterly this month.
