The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has canceled the protestation of Senator Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, as the winner of the guardianship election in Adamawa State.
The electoral body also summoned the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa over the controversial protestation.
This morning, Yunusa walked into the collation and pithily declared Binani the winner of the keenly queried election. His protestation was still protested by other party members who believe his protestation was fraudulent.
In a response posted on its Twitter handle, INEC said the state election isn't yet concluded.
“ The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported protestation of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner( REC) indeed when the process has easily not been concluded. The action of the REC is a expropriation of the power of the Returning Officer. It's null, void and of no effect. Accordingly, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended. ”
